Pace of Play Guidelines
There has been much discussion about slow play in our tournaments. This is not new to us and has been an issue in all of golf including the PGA tour. It has affected some of our members to the point where they do not want to play in our events. We have attached a list of ways to speed up play that can help and it is hoped you will consider some of these. Our goal is a 4.5 hour round. Competitive rounds can sometimes take 5 to 5.5 hours. In our low key spirit we should able to play faster rounds. We don't hear any complaining about fast rounds.
Pace of Play Guideline Suggestions
- Max triple bogey.
- Remove flag as little as possible when you putt as removing and putting flag back in takes time.
- Do not mark your ball unless it is in the direct line of putting, bothers your vision, or if it needs cleaning.
- You are encouraged to putt out on your putts hit reasonably close to the hole without marking your ball.
- Keep your pre-shot routine short, with as few practice swings as possible. They won’t let you take a practice swing in Scotland and have signs saying so. In Scotland, their target is 3.5 hour rounds.
- Play ready golf by :
- Hitting your shot / putt, even if out of turn, even if you are not furthest away, but you are waiting for the other person to hit.
- Pull your cart in front of your playing partners within reason and be ready to hit unless you are close to a dangerous line of being hit.
- Plan your shot before you get to your ball by already determining distance and club selection.
- Plan your putts while others are putting. Don’t wait to do it until it is your turn.
